First, I need to start at the beginning. Although the business, Speak Volumes, Inc. began just a few years ago, this journey began when I went to college. I had sung a great deal and earned a vocal performance scholarship. After that, I continued to sing and pursue a degree. I decided Speech Pathology to be my major. Studying speech pathology was a wonderful way of learning about how to train and correct ways of speaking. It also gave me skills to know how to motivate and work with people to meet goals.
I worked in many different areas offering speech therapy services. Those included public school, nursing home, and home health.I also have worked with refugees new to the United States. I enjoyed each population that I served and found them to be delightful.
These experiences led me to have the skills necessary to help people meet their speech goals.
Starting a Business for Coaching Public Speaking
Secondly, I happen to be married to an attorney. He is in situations where his speech has to be persuasive. I was working in public school at the time. He began looking for someone to help him with his projection and public speaking. We were unable to find anyone who did that.
He looked at me one day and said, "You could do this." I thought about it for a while and agreed. We filed the paperwork and started a business.
I have since worked with actors, singers, pageant contestants, job candidates, business professionals and students. I find seeing clients have success so rewarding. I love to cheer with them as they overcome their fears and achieve their dreams. I find such reward in seeing a client who has been a bundle of nerves, be able to step up and confidently speak in public.
One area that I enjoy is helping clients connect with the media. We have one particular client who had a great deal of success on the singing competition teleivision show, The Voice. It has been a blast getting to see all the doors that opened. And to help move her forward.
This has been a path of difficulty, growth and reward. I am very thankful for the people who have helped me on this journey.
