In our last episode, we spoke about Harmful Questions and said asking If only questions can fill us with regrets and leave us stuck in the past wishing we could change things that can not be undone. We also mentioned it’s possible to overcome past mistakes and failings. So here are a couple of ways to begin the process of overcoming past regrets.
Admit mistakes
First, you need to acknowledge to yourself the reason for your failing and what caused the action. You will never be able to move forward if you don’t take responsibility for your mistake. If you can’t admit to yourself that you aren’t perfect and at least part of this your fault you will never complete the process of moving forward. Admitting a mistake doesn’t leave you in the past thinking you are a bad person, spouse, parent or partner. It means you are human and it propels you toward the future.
Understand What Caused the Action
Next, you need to understand what caused the action. Did you try to meet a real legitimate need in an unhealthy and unhelpful way? Were you trying to avoid some kind of fear or pain? Once, those kind of questions are asked, answered and understood you can shine light into your darkest areas and deal with the root problems that caused the issue.
At Faith Forward Coaching we are praying this helps you forget the past and move forward toward the prize that awaits you today.
