The kind of decisions you make determine the direction you move. A friend of mine and mentor, Dr. Larry Gilliam wrote a poem about your “next most important” decision and he has graciously allowed me to use it.
Yield and surrender, cease and desist!
Give up and give in, - refuse to resist!
Turn loose and refuse to hold on or to cling,
Relax and release and relinquish the thing.
Or the person, the plan, the possession, the pet, -
Or the get-even grudge you can’t seem to forget-
Cause it all boils down to your stubborn will,
You have it, it has you, and you’re shackled until-
You consciously choose and you make the decision
To set yourself free from your self-imposed prison-
You have the ability, you hold the key-
Just use it and you’re on the way to be free-
From the brain-lock that’s driven by one or more fears-
One act of the will and the lock disappears!!
So now is the time, and I hereby decide
To loosen the tie-ups that bind me inside!
To unclench the emotional fists in my mind,
And relax and release mental grips that I find,
And though it feels risky and I am afraid-
It’s the next best decision that I’ve ever made!
Cause I’m yielding to Jesus, who makes no mistakes,
And I am determined, whatever it takes!
I make the great exchange! Here I come, Romans six!
What a trade! What a deal! It’s the ultimate fix!
