Each can have times we feel hopeless. Sometimes it is short lived and at other times we can feel as if it will never end. When we are discouraged we can listen to the writer of Psalms for a couple of paths back to a hopeful life.
Change the way you think
The first strategy is to change the way you think.
Change your thinking from inward to outward. From something that is temporary to something that is not swayed by circumstances.
When the Psalmist was down he always focused on the love, grace and forgiveness of God. When we think about something outside of ourselves it changes our focus toward those that give us hope even during dark days.
Next, focus on things that make you grateful. Even if you just thank the barista that brews your morning coffee, the clerk that helps you at the grocery store or person that lets you cut into traffic. It’s always helps to give thanks for things and people in your life.
Or you can be like the Psalmist and thank God for the blessings he brings your way even if you don’t see them as blessings yet.
Repeating these strategies again and again will help you move away from a life of hopelessness.
