Engulfed with Fear
It’s easy with the demands and stresses of life to feel overwhelmed. In 1st Kings chapter 19 we see how God helped Elijah when he was engulfed with fear and depressed.
Great Victory
We pick up the story after Elijah’s great victory on Mt. Carmel and Queen Jezebel has vowed to killed him. He has been on the run for several days and is exhausted, physically, mentally, and spiritually. He is so overwhelmed by the events going on that he lays down and tells God “that he has had enough” and he asks God to take his life.
Good Model
The way God responds is a good model for how we can help our friends, our loved ones and ourselves.
The first thing God does is allow him to rest and then feeds him. Never underestimate the power of a good bed and warm meal to help those that are feeling down and overwhelmed.
After he was physically strengthened Elijah went a new place where he could receive a fresh perspective. While he is there he is reminded of God’s strength and power. Then he hears a fresh word from God.
Lastly, God helps clear Elijah’s distorted perspective by reminding him that he is not alone in this battle. God’s love for you is to great to ever let you walk through this journey by yourself.
At Faith Forward Coaching, we are praying these truths will help you help yourself and others when feeling down and overwhelmed.
