Eating clean doesn't have to be so boring!! Follow me to the grocery store for my clean eating grocery store haul! See what I personally buy for a week of eating clean, and of course what I steer clear of buying at all costs. Here are some of my top tips for eating clean on a budget, and still enjoying your food!
1. When you shop at the grocery store, always start in the fresh produce section! When you start with all of the fresh fruits and veggies, your cart will start to fill up with yummy healthy foods, and you will have less room to stuff it with junk later on in the shopping trip! Starting off the shopping trip with fresh, healthy greens and vitamin filled fruits can also have the same sort of effect on your mind as working out first thing in the morning, or drinking a full glass of water before reaching for a snack. If you start off the day in a healthy way with a good sweat session, you are more likely to stick to your clean eating meal plan for the rest of the day!
2. Read the labels!!! Just because something is in the natural section, or appears to be healthy, it doesn't mean that it is a clean food! Often times there are hidden sugars in the foods we innocently buy, thinking we are eating clean! For example, on my clean eating haul video, you'll see me show you the hidden sugar disaster waiting to happen when shopping for healthy juices! Some juices claim to be healthy and all natural, but when you read the ingredients, you'll find nasty sneaky sugars like dextrose, glucose, fruit puree (which usually means sugar is added!), corn syrups, and other things you are avoiding when eating clean! You might buy a green smoothie, thinking you are eating clean, nutritious foods in a bottle, but the ridiculous amount of sugar is probably harming you more than the handful of kale inside is helping you! It's always important to really read the nutrition facts, as well as the actual list of ingredients on the foods that you buy.
3. Go organic!! The more often you can select organic foods, the better! This will not only help you fuel your body with the most nutrient dense versions of your produce, but it will also keep your body from absorbing all of those harmful chemicals and toxins that are used normally. The other positive effect that going organic can have is to simply keep you from reaching for the little unhealthy snacks on the shelves! We all know what it's like to go to the grocery store hungry-- it's hard to keep from picking up a bit of junk food here and there when it's all right in front of you! Stick to the natural and organic isle as much as possible to reduce impulse buying, and if you are going to pick up a treat, it will at least have a bit more nutritional value in most cases. ;)
Alright guys, I hope my top three grocery store hacks will help you on your journey to eating clean and enjoying your wonderful life!!
