This is how Matt Redman summarizes worship: “To worship God is to tell him that we believe him for who he says he is.” ). Matt Redman writes songs for contemporary worship. A song of ascents sung while traveling on the road going to Jerusalem, Mary's song of praise to God, the song of worship sung by the Israelites after the crossing of the Red Sea, worship is simply telling God, “...that we believe him for who he says he is.” (Matt & Beth Redman, “Blessed Be Your Name” pub. Regal Books)
What is Simple Worship? It is worship that can be accomplished by everyone. This worship can be at any place, at any time, and at any volume, either shouted or under our breath, just as we read in Psalm 150.
Praise the Lord! [ed. note: this is a clear command] Praise God in His sanctuary; [ed. note: in church”]
Praise Him in His mighty expanse. [ed. note: and everywhere]
Praise Him for His mighty deeds; [ed. note: as we see in scripture and in our lives]
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. [ed. note: as written in the scripture]
Psalm 150:1-2 (NASB)
Kids' Songs of Worship and Praise - “Let everything that has breath…”
God wants our worship. When God wants it from us, it cannot be beyond our abiblities. When God wants us to praise Him, it is for our own benefit. Both young people and mature people benefit and are able to praise God. It does not matter our physical or mental age. Stressed out ministry workers can worship God, as can shy children. God desires the worship of all His children, whether old or young, weak or strong, over stressed or calm and rested. The Psalm tells us that, “everything that has breath,” should praise the Lord, and are able to do so. This worship can give power to our teaching, and connect kids to God, as well as put God’s finger prints on your in ministry with the children.
Simple kids worship looks like this.
In action, what does simple worship look like, practically? It is identified by the three “any’s”:
When it can happen? Anytime.
Where It can happen? Anywhere.
Who can do it? Anyone.
Start with phrases that are found in your kids universe or experience. Try using one or two short sentences telling God that you believe God. You believe what He has already told us. Praise God for his characteristics. Singing, shouting or whispering those words to God. Kids worship should be done in the manner of children, with words familiar to kids. Children do not need to act like adults or use fancy words to worship God. Word that are understood by kids are best.
You can worship loudly and it's OK. Psalms 150 says so.
