Applying that idea to kids ministry worship busts several kids worship myths. This is the second in my series of kids worship myths, where I cover myths 7-12. We covered myths 1-6 here : 6 Big Myths About Kids Worship
Here are big myths about kids worship 7-12:
Myth 7 – Don’t interrupt kids worship with “grown-up” worship songs. Kids ministry songs should be silly, and unique to kid ministry.
Reality – Kids ministry is a part of church life from the cradle to the grave. Match your kids energy and make kids worship a part of the worship culture of your church, not a “silly song,” worship-free zone.
Myth 8 – Kids worship songs should be long and slow like the ones we do in big church, or it’s not real worship.
Reality – Kids worship songs should fit kid’s energy and attention span. Do you know any kid that has ever said, “I want a song that is slower than a dial-up modem, and lasts longer than an episode of “Downton Abbey”? Me neither.
Myth 9 – There are 3 (or 5, or 10 or other random number) steps required for effective worship.
Reality – There is no “worship steps checklist” in the Bible unless you’re a Levite priest in the Jerusalem temple. If you are, I’d like to meet you and hang with you.
Myth 10- Kids worship should look like grown-up worship.
Reality – Really? When does ANYTHING done by kids ever look like grown-ups? Kids worship looks like kids. Embrace it.
Myth 11 – Worship only happens in our big room with the projection and sound system.
Reality – You mean, God doesn’t have a map to your other kids ministries? Worship him everywhere. He’ll show up. He said so.
Myth 12 – I need a sweet media setup to worship.
Reality – Can’t find that one in the Bible. Our brothers & sisters in technology-free parts of the world have deep, fervent worship without it. Worship where you are, with what you have. Add media as you need it, when you’re able.
