Shalom my name is Joshua Pex I'm an Israeli lawyer at the Law Offices of Cohen Deker Pex Brosh we practice immigration to Israel and we assist couples in the process of obtaining a visa and eventualy residency and even citizenship for a foreigner that's married to a partner of an Israeli. This is called the gradual process over a process of several years five or seven years. The foreigner will gain permanent residency in Israel. But one of the key factors during this whole process is that the couple maintain their center of life in Israel. But what does the minister of interior mean when they say center of life. Well there is a procedure to determine if persons or couples center of life is in Israel and also the Israeli court system have rules regarding this phrase center of life. Well they're both objective measures and also subjective factors that are taken into account when determining the center of life of a person or a couple. First of all obviously it's very simple in terms of the objective factors to check how much time did the couple spend in Israel as a rule of thumb during the gradual process. You really have to spend all if not really the majority of your time in Israel except for maybe short visits or vacations. The center of life needs to be in Israel. But there are some cases that because of work or a family abroad that a lot of the time is spent abroad actually. But you really need to be more than half of the time or the majority of the time in Israel. Other objective factors can be having property in Israel like apartment a car bank account. The couple really needs to show that they are residing in Israel. This is their major place of residence. However also subjective factors are taking into account such as other family members where do they live or where really a person or the couple feel their home is. So also these kind of factors are taken into account. But in a lesser degree especially during the last period the last two years of the gradual process before the foreigner applies for an Israeli citizenship then it's important to really be the majority of the time in Israel other than really short vacations and visits abroad. You will need to be most of the time in Israel in order to be eligible to get Israeli citizenship. So if you have any question about determining the center of life or immigration to Israel or any question regarding visas to Israel please contact us. Thank you for listening.
