After my dad died, my world shattered. I really started longing for that attention, that void I was trying to fill. - Lynsi Synder I Am
My Dad Died
Have you suffered the death of your father? Are you, like Lynsi, wondering how to fill the terrible void? Many times, young women will try to fill the sorrow of losing their father through relationships with men. It didn’t matter that she had a majorly successful career as the head of the In-N-Out burger empire. It didn’t matter that her dad had loved her very much. What mattered was the emptiness and sorrow that flooded her heart as she dealt with the death of her dad.
Growing up, Lynsi had a great relationship with her father. He was funny, loved to laugh, and loved to make other people laugh. He and her mother were very loving, and spoiled Lynsi a little bit since she was younger than her siblings.
Lyons’s dad always treated her like an adult, and gave her the gift of music to help her deal with the things he knew life would bring her way. He really loved his little girl.
The sadness bean around the age of 5 or 6, when Lynsi and her mom started visiting her dad in the hospital. It wasn’t until she was older that she realized her dad’s illness was actually drug addiction that was caused from painful surgeries mixed with emotional pain from his past. He just couldn’t break free from he numbing effect of the drugs, and like many people, he slipped down the hole of drug addiction. Lyons knew that her dad so wanted to be strong and a good family man. She understood that his addiction was an illness and it was difficult to see him in his weakness.
Drugs lead to another woman, and when Lynsi was 12, her parents divorced. The loss of her dad’s constant love and support sent her chasing after fulfillment from other men. It is a common pursuit among young women who feel unloved by the mistakes of their dads. The problem is, other men are not the answer to filling the need to be loved. Lynsi found this out the hard way.
My Dad Died and I Miss Him So Much
One day, Lynsi’s dad called her while she was rushing to school. She hurried him off the phone, not knowing it would be the last time she would ever talk to him. Her world was shattered. The sudden death of her dad left her feeling the great loss of the person who had loved her best. That was painful and too hard for her to handle, so she sought that love in other men. They kept disappointing her, even the one she finally chose. She was so determined to never be alone that her judgement was clouded.
At the age of 18, she married, despite that still small voice that told her it wasn’t the best for her. How many times do we ignore those nudgings in order to do something that offers immediate gratification. Sadly, not listening to that quiet voice ended in a divorce for Lynsi and her young husband.
She jumped right into the arms of another man. She realized that she was going down the path of rebellion, so she embraced it completely. Just like the children of many drug addicts, Lynsi fell right into the things that she had seen her father do. Things she had longed to stay away from. she began smoking pot and drinking.
She began to realize that she needed to get right with God, or she was going follow in the footsteps of her father. She knew that the enemy was trying to defeat her, so she gave up the pot and the alcohol. She couldn’t give up the guy because she was so afraid of being alone. She really did not want to be alone, even if it meant staying in a bad relationship.
My Dad Died Quotes
I just was praying and asking for God to give me the strength to do what was right. I knew that I couldn't go back home that night and sleep with my boyfriend. I had to tell him, "Hey, this isn't happening. You know, if you're going to be doing any of those things don't do them around me." He ended up getting saved, so then I'm like, okay now we can get married.
Again, it wasn’t the right thing to do, though she did have two beautiful children. Again it ended in divorce and another affair. She felt like a complete failure. She couldn’t recover who she was. She felt so alone, but not for long.
She began another relationship and had a baby with him. She married him because she did not want to be alone. He married her because she had money and he cheated on her on and off for more than three years. He cheated on her while she was pregnant. He spoke to her in the most disrespectful ways and treated her like trash. Her life had never been worse. She was getting further and further from the love she had been pursuing.
She began believing the lies he said about her, about who she was, taking her further away from who she really was. She didn’t want to divorce again, and she began to believe that God was punishing her for her mistakes.
My Dad Died Quotes
"God took me to a place that I'd never been before, and He showed me that in that time where I felt more alone than ever, more of a piece of trash than ever, more of a failure, that He was there and He was ready to love me and fill that void. And he'd there all along wanting that but He just needed me to let go of that tangible person. It was my dad first, then it was the next guy, the next guy. I was never willing to just let go to see that God had something better. I was forced to it this time because this was something I couldn't change. This was someone that was throwing me to the curb.”
She divorced again, but this time she decided to take time away and spend it with God. She began to see that she was never really alone. The very Jesus who healed the sick, who walked on water was filling the void. He was touching her heart and making her new and clean, and calling her to be the person he had created her to be. He was full of love, grace, mercy, and an unconditional love that exceeded all of her hopes and dreams.
God has restored and redeemed Lynsi’s life and given her a hope and a future. He can do the same for you through a relationship with his son, Jesus.
