The gentleman in this video appears to be a mild mannered and quiet man. Yet he is strikingly honest as he makes the assertion of his true feelings – “I feel hopeless, depressed and worthless.” Have you ever felt that way? Do you feel that way today? Is it frequently the way that you feel? It is a common feeling of many – whatever the age or the circumstances of their lives. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. You can feel differently. Let us help you find Joy, Peace and Hope. You don't have to feel desperate for comfort or afraid any longer.
Feeling Worthless and Depressed
In the attached video, the man tells how he became convinced that he didn’t have to keep feeling worthless and depressed. When he turned to the Word of God, he found Hope for his condition. Hope in what Jesus Christ had done – Christ has died and then rose from the dead, victorious over sin. The man understood that it was for him – that “God’s grace is sufficient.” When we understand this, we see that God does not think us worthless – we are worth so much that He gave His life for us. This knowledge – spiritual knowledge – removes the deep depression and we can start to live in this life with hopelessness and worthlessness defeated because of Christ Jesus.
How to Overcome Feeling Hopeless and Worthless
This man found answers in the Bible – the Word of God. Jesus says “Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in Me.” John 14:1
Again He says, “Peace, I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you.”
And in II Timothy 1:7 we read “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” We need to claim those promises. Put them in your heart and mind. Trust Jesus to hold your hand. Look for something even today that God is calling you to do – someone to help – and you will see your reason for living. You are for sure worthwhile. Grasp that hope and that promise and step out on faith to live this day with love and hope. You will discover how to overcome feeling hopeless and worthless and discover how to live victoriously.
What to Do When You Are Depressed and Don’t Care about Anything
Remember that Jesus said: ”In this world you will have troubles, but take courage, for I (Jesus) have overcome the world.” And we have the victory when we believe in Jesus – that He is God the Son and that He died as a sacrifice for our sins, that He rose again, and when we believe in Him, He comes to live within us and gives us forgiveness and eternal life. That is the source of our Joy and the assurance of our Hope. Believe in Jesus.
But even Christians feel depressed at times. And they may lose their joy for living. You may wonder what to do when you are depressed and don’t care about anything. The gentleman in the video learned that he must go frequently to the Word of God and spend time talking with the Lord. He was reminded to live for Jesus. Becoming involved with a church family, making friends, helping others, joining in activities such as sports or volunteering makes us have a sense of worth. Helping others is a huge healing force. Sometimes we may have to force ourselves to get involved, only then to find that we are having a wonderful time.
Sometimes a person may need to seek help from a medical doctor to push through a period of deep depression. Do not try to hide these feelings from your physician. Your doctor may give you some medication to elevate your feeling levels. Working in tandem with your doctor and your pastor or spiritual helper can help you move forward in a joint effort to accomplish the common goal.
“I John 5:13-14 “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” So, pour your heart out to God and experience the peace and love that He will show you through His grace. He will give you a purpose for living. Claim His promises as did our friend in the video. Reach out to Jesus – to really know him. Reach out to a friend, a minister, a counselor, a doctor to help you. May you be blessed today.
