Home Insurance Tip Building Ordinance Does Matter on Texas Home Insurance Policies
Hey good morning North Texas! It's Ron with Insurance and that was a crazy storm that blew through Dallas Fort Worth yesterday afternoon!
We saw some pretty intense damage in some spots. That made me think about something with respect to your home insurance as we help folks try to get cleaned up today and get the claims process started.
One of the things that's on your homeowners insurance policy that most folks don't understand revolves around building ordinance. In North Fort Worth & Keller last night they're not sure if it was a tornado. They're not sure if it was straight line winds. The bottom line is there was enough damage to homes to make them structurally unsound and it can be where the city's not going to let those people back into their homes. They're going to have to take it all the way to the ground and then rebuild.
If you have short cut it your dwelling coverage and your building ordinance, that can be a bad spot to be so what I would recommend is taking a look at our website. We've got a blog entry that I'll link to from from the video about building ordinance. That's how you can bring it to the ground because the city is requiring it by the law and then if you've got enough dwelling coverage you can subsequently rebuild your house back to where it was.
It's kind of crazy to think that you could lose half your roof and have enough damage that your home is structurally unsound but that's the reality for some folks this morning.
We would love to help you with these kinds of processes. Hope you have a great week!
