This is a dish I grew up with. My grandmother would make this every weekend to have with dinner or as a snack dip with pita bread or veggies. Every time I take a bite it brings me back to grandma’s apartment in Brooklyn. I hope you enjoy this recipe it adds to your own traditions. It is a popular dip in the Middle East with a tangy flavor. Enjoy! Chick Pea Dip (Hommous bi Tahini) 1 15oz. can of chick peas or garbonzo beans (drain the liquid and save) ¼ cup Tahini (Sesame Seed Paste) 1 clove of garlic ½ tsp. salt ¼ cup lemon juice (fresh lemon juice is preferred. It turns out to be about 1 small lemon) Combine all the above ingredients in a food processor or blender, adding only enough of the saved liquid to meet your satisfaction (the more liquid added, the thinner the dip). Blend 2 – 3 minutes or until it is a smooth paste. To present it at a meal or dip, place in a small platter or shallow bowl. If preferred sprinkle with olive oil on top and garnish with parsley sprigs and lemon wedges. Enjoy it with pita bread or celery, carrots, peppers or whatever your favorite dipping utensil is. You can also use it as a side dish with any fish, Taboulie, Barbeque Chicken, or Shish Kabob.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. It is super healthy with many benefits. Eating chickpeas provides you with a vegetarian-friendly source of protein, with each cup of cooked garbanzo beans containing 15 grams. Your body breaks down this protein into amino acids, and then uses them to maintain the health of your body's tissues. Chickpeas are a source of incomplete protein, which means they do not contain every amino acid you need for good health. Make sure you combine them with other sources of protein, such as nuts, whole grains, dairy, eggs or meat to prevent an amino acid deficiency. A cup of cooked chickpeas provides 12.5 grams of fiber. Tahini It’s one of the best sources of calcium out there. Helps to maintain healthy skin and muscle tone. It has 20% complete protein, making it a higher protein source than most nuts. While lemons may seem quite acidic, they're a surprisingly good source of an alkaline food that can help balance your body's pH. So, you can enjoy this dish knowing you are doing something good for your body. If you try out our recipe please comment below and let us know how it turned out!
