JHS Pedals

The name JHS Pedals is well known among the guitar pedal community,  so we thought we would take a few minutes to check out a few of their most popular pedals. This company is known for building overdrives, delays, and everything in between. For those of you looking for a new sound, check out this list and see which pedal suits you.   

Morning Glory

The JHS Morning Glory, inspired by the Bluesbreaker, is a transparent overdrive that can fit into any players sound. This versatile drive con function anywhere from a clean boost to a full on drive pedal. Its transparent tone is perfect for enhancing the tone of your guitar while adding a little presence to your tone. As you turn the gain up you will mix more drive into your tone that will sound just like you amp. This pedal is different from other drives as it doesn't add in the typical mid-range bump. This gives the player a different sound than the typical tubescreamer circuit. It also allows for the tonal characteristics of the guitar to be heard rather than the electronics. This has cause the morning glory has become a fan favorite among guitar players everywhere. 

Pulp n' Peel

In the continual debate over the best compressor pedal, the JHS Pedals Pulp n' Peel always makes the short list. This compressor pedal has gone through a few different version. The most current iteration of this pedal, version 4, features four controls Volume, Comp, EQ, and Blend. These controls are straightforward and act as expected. The Volume allows you to make up from the compression that is added to your signal. The latest version of this pedal comes with more headroom so it can be used as a lead boost or can overdrive a tube amp. A unique feature of the Pulp n' Peel is the dirt toggle. This switch allows you to mix a little bit of overdrive into your compressed signal. This makes this pedal even more versatile, and an internal trim pot will allow you to decrease or increase the added overdrive as possible. This added dirt create the ability to add a fresh texture into your tone and add more presence to your signal. One other feature that has been added to the pulp n peel is the XLR out. This allows you to go straight from the pedal to the board or recording console. 

Superbolt

Even though it is fairly new the JHS Pedals family, the superbolt became an instant classic. In fact, people loved it so much that JHS rereleased the pedal under the name of the Ruby Red after adding a boost section. This overdrive pedal aims to recreate the classic tone of the famous Supro amp. This pedal is straightforward in functionality but it adds a dynamic and complex drive to your tone.  The drive control will function like the volume on one of these old amps. As you turn it clockwise you will introduce more gain into your signal. From there you can use the volume knob as your master volume to dial in the tone to a suitable level. Players can then use the tone knob to smooth out any harsh high end or clean up any muddiness in the low end.

Color Box

The Colour Box is a whole new animal that JHS has introduced to the pedal world. Instead of emulating and amp or dirt pedal, The Color Box aims to recreate the tones created by a famous recording console. The Neve console is has been used by huge artist like Steely Dan, Led Zepplin, and The Beatles. One of the most iconic sounds produced from the Neve is the guitar part on "Revolution" by The Beatles. The tone on the record was actually achieved by plugging the guitar straight into the console. Since this isn't very easy to do in a live setting, JHS developed this pedal to emulate that effect onstage. 

Kilt

This pedal was born through a collaboration between JHS and StuG of the band Delirious. As a recording artist StuG needed a versatile pedal that he could use for any song both in the studio and later on stage. What they ended up with was The Kilt. This pedal is capable of everything from a light transparent dive to a rich Fuzz. This dual drive has two independent channels. The left side is a recreation of the Expadora and the right is a JFET boost. Players can use either side separately or combine the two for a completely new tone. In the end, this incredibly flexible pedal can help you create any tone you need for almost any situation.
