Hello and welcome back to Guitarpedals.live presented by
Skye Studios. Today we are exploring the Bondi Effects Sick As Overdrive. This
pedal can cover a lot of tonal ground from clean boost to thick overdrive
sounds. First we are going to look at a general overdrive setting that helps to
add presence without becoming overwhelming. Gain is added without changing too
much to of the original signals characteristic. This allow the sound of the
guitar and amp to be heard rather than the pedal. This means that as you experiment
with other guitars you will continue to find new tones within this pedal.
Next we will look at
how to use this pedal as a clean boost. With the gain all the way down the
pedal cleans up nicely and adds some mojo to your clean tone. The volume boost
can help push your amp into a first stage overdrive. There is also a nice sparkle
that is added into the clean tone. This can be helpful in adding a little more
punch to your tone that will help you to cut through the mix.
This pedal does not
stop at a clean boost/Transparent overdrive there is plenty of Gain available
for any gig. As you can see in this next section the Sick As can really pack a
punch. As you increase the gain you get an overdrive that is unruly, but not
untamable. The EQ controls help to keep the pedal under control. The ability to
roll of some high end or boost the bass helps to keep the pedal from becoming
to harsh while still having enough brightness to not get lost in the rest
of the band. No matter what kind of music you are playing this pedal will help
you find the sound you need.
In the last section of this video we have set
up a loop to help show you how the pedal responds to signal in real time. As
you can see the EQ controls get you a wide sweep on both the treble and bass
side of the pedal. You also will see the toggle up and toggle down. Up gives
you a more compressed sound and down has a more open and aggressive feel to it.
This is a great pedal and it would fit well on
any player’s board. The build quality is great. It feels durable and has a nice
clean overall feel. I love this pedal and it will live on my board for a long
long time.
