Hi, my name is Dave McIlrath, your Rockwall Realtor. Before I got into real estate, my wife and I had adopted two of our five children from Ethiopia. We wanted to be a part of what God was doing there to help widows and orphans who obviously would not be adopted or pulled out of the situation. So, we started the Guest home. One guest home led to two, three, four, and five. Each of those guest homes had an Empowerment Center. At that Empowerment Center it was really a job training program at a local church for women with HIV, leprosy and who were single moms. So we trained them in a job.

We also provided the job all together. We had a hundred and thirty-four full-time staff members in Ethiopia. About four years into the the 6-years total that we spent there in business as Ministry or businesses missions, we we found that my general manager was systematically embezzling. I was broken-hearted. Not about the money, but more about the relationship as he was really like a brother to me. Obviously we had to let him go and as we did,  he made it his life goal to destroy us and was successful. What happened is that he paid off men in the tax office to come in question me. However, that questioning actually was never intended to be just questions. I spent 11 days in two different Ethiopian prisons and they essentially were begging the judge to suspend the constitution of Ethiopia so that they might treat me like a murderer and deny me bail. They were asking the judge to keep me behind bars for 30 years for these alleged crimes and they kept my passport so I couldn't leave the country. As a result of that, we had to resort to unconventional methods of being able to leave the country. As all of that happened, everything just crumbled and folded. As I returned home with PTSD unable to really think through difficulties or sleep at night without raging nightmares, I really had to seek out what God was doing. What was he doing inside me.

Instead of asking God what is next, I asked him who was next. I figured if I was doing anything with the right people something good came out of that, and that's when God provided my mentor who was a Wickliffe missionary for 25 years and it since semi-retired come back to the DFW area. He was involved in unconventional real estate and there was something about that that was intriguing. He and I share the same personality types. We just hit it off and I knew that perhaps there was something here. So, as we begin to connect more and more, it became apparent that this is really what I should be doing. That was in October, in fact October 16th 2013 was when I came home. That opened up for me now my now career in real estate which I never thought in a million years I would be a realtor. I like to think that we bring who we are to whatever we're doing, and so my goal is to see God glorified and the kingdom grow as I help others in this crazy world that is all things real estate!
