This is Courage Cast, faith, inspiration and motivation for today. Well, hey friends. This is Eric and you're listening to Courage Cast. This is the beginning of a new week. I am really, really excited to be with you this week. I hope you enjoyed last week's series with Bob Berg and the Go Giver. I've been waiting a while to share that one with you. I didn't share it sooner because we just did a series on the Go Giver and I didn't want this to be the Go Giver podcast necessarily but really really good stuff from that that we can take away.
Today starts a new week and it's also convention week. DoTerra, the company that I partner with, that Crissy and I, my wife and I partner with, we are wellness advocates with doTerra and we've been partnering with them in our network marketing business for about four years. We're actually going to be beginning our fifth year in October is when we start our fifth year. That means we once again will be heading out to Salt Lake City for the week. We will leave on Tuesday and then we'll be back on Saturday. We're actually getting back a day earlier than normal. Should be a great time.
I'm looking forward to it for a number of reasons. One of them is that I get to spend almost a whole week together with Crissy. I really love traveling with her. I love doing life with her. This is much more fun than going by myself. See, last year, I had to go by myself because Crissy was going to a writing retreat. She was going to a songwriters' retreat and she was gone the whole ... she had to be at that event which is in Colorado and I had to be in Salt Lake City by myself which was ... I still had a great time. I love being with our team but there's just something more special about experiencing something with your wife. That's one of the things I'm looking forward to.
The second thing I'm looking forward to is seeing all of my team. We have about 30 people on our team that are coming, that are in our organization and I'm excited. Many of them are coming for the first time so I'm excited to share all of the new experiences with them. But also, many of them are coming back for a second or third time. I'm also just looking forward to sharing in this experience with them and getting to encourage them throughout this time. My favorite time is recognition. It's where we get to cheer on all of our leaders that have grown in rank, in leadership rank and I get to cheer them on and celebrate. I'd usually lose my voice just from doing that. It's one of my favorite things to do.
The Importance of Building Relationships
Another thing I'm excited about this year is that we are going to have a Courageous Community meetup. Now, most of our Courageous Community is part of a specific larger group under Ginny Harrison. Ginny is hosting this year an event where we're going to be eating a lot of meat on Friday night. That night, we'll get to spend time together as a Courageous Community inside of this larger event. I'll be having t-shirts. I had about 60 t-shirts printed. I'm excited to give those out while supplies last. I'm hoping that they will last. I got a general idea of how many people will want one and what the sizes are going to be.
I ordered accordingly but you never know how many people will actually show up. I'm expecting to just give them all away. We'll be giving them first to our team that is coming who wants one that are listeners of the Courageous Community but then whoever else is part of the listenership of our little podcast here, the Courage Cast, they'll get a t-shirt too. While supplies last. I'm excited to spend time talking and meeting with some of you, our listeners, my listeners to this podcast. It's extremely humbling and extremely gratifying for me to get together with you in person. I'll love it even more.
One more thing that I'm really, really excited about is that I'll not only get to be with you guys but my hope is that I'll be able to sit down in a relatively quiet place and talk with some of not only our leaders but some of the people in doTerra, some of the other leaders that are higher up in rank, that are achieving high ranks and moving at a very high level that are also faith based believers who I could just sit down with and talk about how the business is going for them, what sort of words of encouragement they and just even sitting down with listeners and capturing a few words with everyone, a few words of encouragement, a few words of fear busting that I can record and put together on a future podcast.
The other thing that I'm planning on doing is having some conversations with Crissy that we'll record on my phone that we can later put on the podcast because Crissy and I have some ... she has some things brewing in her that I know she wants to share. Whenever I can, as soon as I can, I'll get these podcast episodes up. They may be up next week or they might be up this week. It just depends on whether I'll be able to have the time to put that together. But I'm extremely excited to spend time with you guys at doTerra convention.
What I'm Looking Forward To
I want to spend the rest of my time on this podcast talking about my mindset at convention and what I'm hoping it will be about. My prayer is that I'll be spending everyday and as many moments as possible glorifying God and pouring in encouragement into others, that my relationships with others will grow. I'll be praying that I meet new people. I'm going to forget about my rank, whatever that really ... that does no impact at all on me. I'm going to forget about that and I'm going to focus on the people that God puts in front of me. I'm going to focus on the relationships that God develops in this next week. I am excited to just see what he does and I want to edify others.
There's some scriptures that I think will be very profound for me as I spend time at convention. I want to resonate on these. Maybe these will be helpful to you because many of you are going to convention as well. Number one, the first scripture that comes to mind that I would like to resonate with and think on and pray over is James 4:10 which says, "Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you." Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work hardily as for the Lord and not for men." Lastly, 2nd Timothy 2:15, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved. A worker who has no need to be ashamed rightly handling the word of truth."
My attitude, may it be an attitude and this is something I think you can apply whether you're coming to convention, whether you're living out your day to day life, whether you're not even going to a convention or not even in network marketing or in this business with us, humble yourself today. Surrender to the one who made you today. It's not about you. It's always going to be about other people. So many times I find myself in the temptation to self-promote and to exalt myself higher with another person. But my prayer is that I would not do that, that my time would be spent discovering other people's hopes and dreams, asking questions, learning sincerely, taking an interest and learning about the people I come in contact with.
Praying Over Convention
May I spend my days together with Crissy at convention in this week promoting others, edifying others, encouraging others. Luisa Crane who is an avid listener has been a very big promoter of the Courage Cast and the Courageous Community said something recently to me on Facebook messenger, she wrote and said, "God has been speaking to me about edifying others and encouraging others and saying things to them when he lays it on my heart to that encourage and edify." When someone does something positive to complement them, to give them the complement, do not hold it back. When you make a habit of complementing and when you make a habit of noticing great things in other people, when you notice courageous things, very good things, things that amaze you about that person, go ahead and speak it out. I pray that that would be what I do this week.
As a matter of fact, I pray that that's what I do with my kids, with my wife and with my closest friends and family. May I not hold back the complements that I want to give to other people because that's withholding a gift from them. May I be a gift giver, a giver of complements, a giver of gratefulness, a speaker of gratefulness. May I be in an attitude of gratefulness and seeking good in others and seeing good in others and edifying. May that be the same for you. I pray these scriptures that I read again would be taken to heart.
Remember that God is the one who promotes. God is the one who elevates. Working for him hardily and not for men, not for men's approval. He exalts those that are humble. May I be exalted by him in my humility. May he not find me full of pride this week. That's my prayer for myself. That's my prayer for you. I'm excited about what he's going to do in you this week.
Well, friends, if this podcast is an encouragement to you, would you take a few minutes and go and give a review on iTunes, very simply, if you have the Apple podcasting app, it's very easy to do. Just simply go and write a quick review and give us a rating. The more ratings we have, the more people find us. It's so vital to the continued success of this podcast that we have more reviews. I would appreciate that. I would also encourage you to go to courageouscommunity.com and sign up for the email list.
When you sign up for the email list, you will get the free one-hour audio download of Who I Am in Christ. You'll be able to soak in the truth of what God says about you as a believer in Christ and just listen to the truth of what he says and crowd out the feelings, crowd out the emotions, crowd out the things that are temporal and be filled with the truth of what is eternal. Go to courageouscommunity.com. Sign up for email list. It's very easy to do. I know that this will bless you.
Lastly, I encourage you to join and communicate and interact in the Courageous Community on Facebook. There's a link to it from courageouscommunity.com. We just discuss things today. Today, I was blown away. I asked everyone on the community group what their favorite music is, what their favorite songs are for pumping them up, for encouraging them, for inspiration, for motivation. I just got an amazing playlist. I'm putting a playlist together based on everyone's responses. I think we had about 40 as of today. We have about 40 responses, 40 songs, great songs. Join the Courageous Community. I'll probably post that playlist. Somehow I should be able to do it via iTunes. You can take that and make it your own and have one more thing to encourage you.
Music is powerful. I live in Music City, USA. I understand the power of music. I encourage you to pay attention to what you put in your ears. Pay attention because what you put in your ears goes into your mind. It becomes what you dwell on. It becomes what you think about. It becomes eventually what you speak out. Then it becomes what you do. Those things that you speak and think become actions that leads you either in a good direction or maybe not such a good direction. Pay attention to what you put into your mind and what you dwell on. Much of that can be done by filling up your mind with this podcast, with great music and good books, audio books, just good material that you fill up your mind and watch because what goes into the mind comes out in a life.
Well, friends. I look forward to experiencing this week at doTerra week, convention week with you. You'll hear plenty of it from me and hear all about it. That's it for me, friends. I'll be back with you again on another episode of Courage Cast. I'm Eric Nordhoff. Have a great day, everyone.
